Hemodialysis Treatment

The purpose of hemodialysis is to clean and filter the blood. It can also help control blood pressure and balance important minerals in the blood. During hemodialysis, blood is circulated through a filter outside the body through a dialyzer and then returned back to the body. This whole process takes about 3-4 hours and must be done at least three times a week.

With hemodialysis, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Follow a strict treatment schedule at Blalock Dialysis Center
  • Take medications as prescribed
  • Make positive changes in your diet
  • Control fluid intake

During your hemodialysis treatment, you will receive quality care from the Blalock Dialysis Center comprehensive renal care staff. The nursing staff will take your vital signs constantly for your safety. While you are on hemodialysis, you will be in a very comfortable space. You will have regular visits with the dietician to help with any concerns regarding your labs. We have a regular social worker who is present to help you with any financial or insurance needs.
